2026 Cost Guide
What drives the price of a dry basement — and the ranges we actually quote.
The Five Factors
The Ranges We Quote
These are the same ranges on our service pages — we don't quote one number here and another on the estimate.
| Job | Typical cost range |
|---|---|
| Foundation crack injection | $300 – $1,000 per crack |
| Sump pump repair | $150 – $500 |
| Standard sump pump installation | $600 – $2,000 |
| Sump pump + battery backup system | $1,200 – $3,000 |
| Vapor barrier only (crawl space) | $1,500 – $4,000 |
| Bowed-wall stabilization (carbon fiber) | $1,500 – $4,500 |
| Crawl space drainage + sump pump | $2,000 – $6,000 |
| Interior drainage system | $2,300 – $7,500 |
| Full crawl space encapsulation with dehumidifier | $5,000 – $15,000 |
| Full exterior excavation & membrane | $8,000 – $15,000+ |
Ranges are typical for the Cincinnati area based on published industry cost guides; your written estimate reflects your specific basement.
The Big Fork in the Road
Most of the spread in basement waterproofing prices comes down to one decision. An interior drainage system intercepts water after it reaches the foundation and carries it to a sump — it's less invasive, faster, and $2,300–$7,500 for most Fairfield basements. Exterior waterproofing stops the water before it touches the wall, which is the more complete fix and the right one for a wall that's actively leaking through its face or a finished space that can't be opened up — but it's $8,000–$15,000+ because a crew and an excavator spend two to four days outside your house. We recommend interior far more often than exterior, and we'll tell you plainly when yours is the exception.
The Other Column
The number that doesn't appear on any estimate is what a wet basement costs while you think about it: mold remediation runs into the thousands, a finished basement floor and drywall are a five-figure replacement, and a buyer's inspector who finds moisture staining will either knock the price or walk. A crack injection in April is the cheapest waterproofing job we do; the same crack in a flooded finished basement in June is the most expensive.
Paying for It
Angela walks every customer through financing options on the estimate visit — most Fairfield homeowners fund an interior system in monthly payments rather than up front. We'll never push a bigger job than the water calls for to make a financing number work.
Yes. Inspection, diagnosis, and a written itemized price, no obligation. If the answer is "your grading is the problem, fix the downspouts first," we say so and leave.
Usually because the water is getting in differently — or because one quote is an interior system and the other is exterior. Ask each company to write down where the water is coming from; if the diagnoses don't match, the prices won't either.
Usually not for seepage, which insurers treat as maintenance rather than a sudden event. Sump pump failure and sewer backup are sometimes covered by an add-on rider; check your policy. See our FAQ page for more.
